I have to admit, when we stopped into the food court at the mall (malls are everything in the UAE) and spotted tacos (searching, always searching), I was skeptical. Let’s just say these chicken pastor (no pork, of course) scratched the itch. Stretchy tortillas 🤔, medium heat on the salsa…they were tacos in Abu Dhabi and they did have lime so 👏🏽! And essentially in the shadow of this Grand Mosque. And wow. What a stunning, reverent and holy place! It was like @liladowns knew us. This was a first night anthem to kickoff our taco tour mastermind weekend. (And anthem for life).  "Yo tengo... Yo tengoooooooo ganas de comer tacos!"  ["I want... I waaaaaant to eat tacos!"]  She's a Grammy-winner and Mexican legend. She blew our minds and brought down the house at Palacio de Bellas Artes @palaciooficial. She exudes a passion and celebration of culture, life, love, food and heritage. Unabashedly herself! Spectacular show with folklore dancers, duet with @natalialafourcade and full orchestra...we couldn't get enough.  Inspired by Lila’s call to arms, we obviously went for late night tacos. It's what you do.  @taqueriaorinoco was exactly what we needed. This absolute powerhouse group right here! So insanely grateful for each of them. Juggling so many things (businesses they founded and are operating, families, volunteer and church leadership, personal development), they intentionally carved out 4 days out to focus on 2 things: brand/personal transformation and #chasingtacos. 🌮🏃🏾‍♂️ Makes perfect sense to me. Both things I'm completely obsessed with. And precisely the reason I created these executive taco tour mastermind weekends. We like to call Vitamin T — tacos and brand transformation. @forevervitamint @jgamett perfectly described what happened to each of us a few weeks ago in Mexico City: "Initially I thought I was going to enjoy tacos & culture with fellow CEOs, but I received a whole lot more. I returned a with a clear vision for my company, conviction to make the needed changes and energy to see them through. It was perfect timing and I had no idea how bad I needed it!" This was not your ordinary mastermind. Not your regular Mexico weekend. It was the taco tour of a lifetime...but wasn't just about the tacos. For me, it was just magical and truly incredible to see what happened to each of us in our group. Non-stop human connection on wild display — in the thick of every taco interaction, of every immersive cultural experience, every conversation with each other and every regular old street encounter. The a-ha's, the light bulbs, the motivation to incorporate human connection into our business and personal brand DNA and then in our brand experience design. Powerful. We're bonded for life. Peers. Happy Taco 2sday! Double trompos is double your pleasure. One classic pastor de puerco and the other pastor de sirloin. But actually the surprise standout taco here was camarones. 🍤🌮🏃🏽‍♂️ fresh tortillas. Tasty aioli sauce on the grilled shrimp. Excelente! Hat tip to @jambalaya_jeenyus for the first time visit here. Just driving by on a random street in CDMX Centro Histórico…but need to pay tribute to all of these people living their best taco life. Wish we could have stopped because the masses are a pretty good sign the tacos are worth it. There’s nothing like the taco culture. Hasta la próxima!
If you have a captive audience, shouldn’t you STILL care about quality and service??? I mean, shouldn’t the sense of pride in what you do be consistent no matter if your customers have no other option or you have a monopoly??? Principles you learn on the search for the perfect taco. It’s with great sadness that I’m reporting that the taco scene in the Guadalajara airport is abysmal. I mean, I shouldn’t have expected much but you know it’s bad with you ask 4-5 of the airport workers where the best tacos are and they hang their heads in shame and send you to Chili’s. 😳 Tacos Amigos is literally the only taco option (except for the one Mexican cafe that pre-cooked their taquitos and reheated them for you…no thanks.) It looked a bit sus but then I saw the tortilla press and thought that was encouraging. Turns out looks were deceiving. It pains me to say but the tortillas were flavorless. As was the pastor meat. I literally couldn’t even finish them. What?! I NEVER do that. Mortal sin. I was so disappointed. And really really happy to get to CDMX in prep for next week’s exec taco tour mastermind! HOWEVER, there’s always light at the end of the oppressively dark tunnel of terrible tacos…I found @pasteleriasmarisa! Cue the angel chorus. I always ask if they have anything sugar free. When they told me they have almost everything in sugar-free versions, I nearly hugged her and almost shed tears of joy. Ever since giving up white sugar 14 years ago, I haven’t had an oreja. When I was a missionary in Mexico they were some of my fave cookies! And THEN, she said they had tres leches cake with blueberry filling and I lost it. Ladies and gentlemen, the sun has set on a long night of a life without tres leches cake! It was incredible. Sweetened with stevia. Creamy. Moist (yep, I said it). The texture was perfect. My dad always says he could eat a bale of hay if it had real whipped cream on it. My dad is a very very wise man!
The only question we all should be asking is why in the world is there an empty space for a taco and we didn’t fill it?!?! #tacotragedy When you hit up @velvettaco for the first time, you really want to try *all* of their innovative taco mash-ups and then you’d spot the red curry coconut (whaaaat?!) queso and you forget everything. Pretty sure there’s a Cuban pig, angus brisket, and spicy tikka chicken taco in there somewhere. Fusion done so right. All the super savory flavor combos. The vibe. Can’t wait to go back and eat my way through the entire menu!
Brunch time flashback. Chilaquiles are basically deconstructed and smothered breakfast tacos, right? Nachos for breakfast. And with this view on our last meal before leaving the magical Tepoztlán.
